Proper water filtration efforts
Water is currently safe. Nonetheless, new filtration systems at each well will have to be added soon to prevent elevated levels of contaminants reaching our families. Efforts are currently underway to apply for and receive monies to purchase these new filters. I pledge to provide an open line of communication between the Pico Rivera Water Authority & the Pico Water District and to secure a ready to go back-up plan (a water interconnect) should water contaminants exceed California Safety levels. There is no room for error when it come to our health.
Balancing City Budget
Our biggest challenge is overcoming the 10 million-dollar shortage Pico Rivera is facing this upcoming 2021 year.
I pledge to push for:
- emergency audit of city departments revealing the excessive spending
- renegotiate contracts
- new business engagement into our city’s vacant commercial spaces
- new construction on our vacant lots and abandoned properties
- city permit incentives and discounts for property owners pulling permits during off-peak seasons
Resident Safety
I’m sure you’ve noticed a rise in crime. We’re all tired of it. My pledge: More Sheriff Deputies and Detectives to deter these criminals. Let’s increase police presence ensuring safe, crime-free neighborhoods
Protecting Seniors and Veterans
Our seniors are the backbone of our community and many utilize the free transportation option offered to them as residents of our beautiful city. Yet, the wait times for pick-up fall short of satisfactory. Wait times are often 3 hours for a ride to the grocery store or to a doctor’s appointment. Let’s resolve this by doubling the fleet of vehicles providing transport to our senior and handicapped residents reducing wait times.
Tackle Homelessness
Pico Rivera and the local Sheriff’s department are in a position to utilize state, local and non- profit resources to benefit both residents and the homeless. Homeless outreach, housing placement and counseling efforts are currently underway but efforts should be doubled to make a lasting impact that we all can be proud of.
Beautification Projects For Our City
Let’s continue the beautification efforts of our roadways, parks and public facilities and ensure education excellence for our children with an extra emphasis to be placed on beautifying the northern portions of our city. Â
Honoring Our Veterans
The valiant men and women who have served in the armed forces protecting our freedoms deserve our praise and gratitude. Let’s continue to hear their perspective and increase their involvement concerning citywide matters. I pledge to advance the creation of a Veterans Commission and a Veterans’ Resource Center housed within our Public Library located across from Smith Park.
